“Our store is a family affair. My husband and I have worked here for 16 years, our two kids help out in the store, and my mum even comes in at 6am to help with the baking.  Our customers and team members are part of the family too – we’ve seen them grow up from kids who love donuts to parents who bring their own kids in for a treat!”

How long have you owned your store?

We’ve been in the Donut King system for 16 years!

What did you do before you opened your store?

I was a credit controller.

Why did you decide to open a Donut King?

I always wanted to open my own business and was made redundant and then went on maternity leave so had a year to make a decision about my career. I did a lot of research and decided Donut King was perfect for my family. It’s given us the opportunity to spend time together as family – both by working side-by-side in the store, and giving us the freedom to take holidays with the kids during school holidays.

Why should your local community support you?

We’ve got everything seasonal. You can come to us in any season and have something perfectly tailored to the weather and the atmosphere outside. Also, we cater to all demographics – kids, adults, retirees, and all of our products are consistent. Unlike independent competitors, you can redeem your coffee across any store in the network, which is a huge incentive to visit our stores around the country.

We’re really thankful to our community – we have extremely loyal customers. We’ve had customers who used to visit us with their parents when they were young and now they’re adults with their own kids.
Our team members love working for us and we have a really low turnover. I’ve been to two weddings of team members who started with us when they were 14 and are now adults – it’s really lovely.

What are you passionate about?

Going to the gym and running. I’ve done over 10 half marathons and one full marathon! I love holidays and eating, especially dining out with the family.

How is your family involved with your store?

We’re a totally family-run business. Our store is a family affair. My husband and I are the franchise partners and my two children, who are 19 & 16 now, have always been involved in the store. Additionally, my mum helps us with the baking in the mornings. Our baker comes in at 5am and she’s in by 6am to help!
